Rerras, the traditional tavern in Lavrio, is still in the sixties, when taverns worked with what the place produced.
When they put olive oil from their own olives in the salad, the barrel had their own wine and they fried the squid, potatoes and blackberries on the gas with a big flame.
Almost nothing has changed since then.
Mr. Giannis, the third generation of Rerras, runs the shop that was started by his grandfather Giannis in 1945 and to this day, with the same passion, he treats the passerby with his exquisite dishes.

Everything leads there…
We all came out like snails after the rain…
Like squids that bite better in cloudy weather and rain…
And after fishing where else for fried squid sulfur!!!
At the Rerras tavern in Lavrio…
Of course we took our walks to nearby Agios Konstantinos to admire the Egilon Chaos and then a quick walk to the nearby ancient theater in Thoriko, just to get really hungry…

It’s like your grandmother is cooking for you, we’re talking about that kind of homemade food.
He’s hidden in plain sight, behind the fish market on the street where taxis stop.
He waits in his old house to treat passersby with his goodies.

The dishes
Fresh fish, anchovy fillets, live mullets and whatever else he finds fresh and exquisite at the market.
His excellent frying pan without much oil makes the koutsomouritsa the best appetizer and the potatoes divine.
Now if you are lucky and he has found a large squid or thrapsalo at the market he will make it fried for you and you will lick your fingers.
And of course we also have charcoal for our sardines so that we do not forget.
The bread is fresh, the salad is rich, the atmosphere is relaxed from that decade, the smile is wide.

What else do you want…
I would even sit down for a fava with lots of onion and olives.
Or just a tsipouraki with the unplayed fried potato, because the potato shows the quality of the cook…
And when the cold weather hits, you are both miraculous and lucky, you will eat your tripe hot, hot with lots of garlic stew.

In the end
In the end and after drinking the last tsipouro, a walk to the port is a must for a Greek coffee sitting on the edge of the pier…
Those who are looking for the simplicity of taste, the essence and not the so-called Rerras!!!

At #TasteLocalGreece, we taste and promote all our favorite hangouts.
The local products we discover, the places we visit, and those that fit our philosophy.
The taverns we discover in our culinary quests. Our articles have no commercial benefit. Often, the restaurants we visit are unaware that we will be mentioning them.
They are all our personal experiences, and we share them with you. We strive to highlight forgotten flavors, authenticity, and simplicity that have been lost from our lives.
